Players, officials, athletes and visitors that thronged the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos from last Thursday through Friday when the 7th Inspector General of Police National Open Taekwando Championship took place were excited when apprised with Globacom’s latest voice and data plans dubbed “Glo Yakata”.
Many who bought gadgets also got exciting gifts as a result of the on-going Smartphone Festival as children, cadets and adults compete for honours in the Indoor Sports Hall where the Championship, sponsored by Globacom held.
At the closing ceremony, Globacom’s Regional Head, Public Sector, Mr. Bola Onifade announced that the company would upscale its relationship with the Nigeria Police through the Forcecom which started ten years ago. He said the company was a firm believer in the maxim that sound mind should exist in a sound body. Hence, its support for sporting activities.
He said the Championship would raise a new generation of players in the country and help officers and men of the Police to keep fit and perfect the art of self defence.
The Deputy Commandant, Police College,DCP Oruebo Daso represented the Inspector General of Police at the Championship. The Army team was adjudged as the Overall Best while Inspector Ernest Orobor won the best male player award.
Osioma Igwebuike emerged as the best female player and the duo of Benjamin Okomose and Ifeoma Dennis was adjudged the Championship Most Valuable Player male and female respectively. Zone 11 of the Nigeria Police won the Best Police team of the championship.
